Our Approach:

We believe that sustainable change is rooted in the power of people and systems working together. Our approach is centered on strengthening community participation to identify and address key challenges affecting their well-being, while simultaneously enhancing system-level responses to ensure long-term impact and accountability.

Transforming Lives Through Education and Health

Transforming Lives Through Education and Health

By empowering communities—especially women, youth, and marginalized groups—to actively participate in decision-making, and by building the capacity of institutions and service delivery mechanisms, we create an environment where rights are realized, voices are heard, and solutions are owned by the people they are meant to serve.

Message from the CEO

When I began Somala Mahila Sangha in 1998, it was driven by a simple but powerful belief—that sustainable change must begin with dignity, equity, and community ownership. What started as voluntary service in rural Assam has grown into a mission to address poverty by strengthening education, health, sanitation, and livelihoods at the grassroots.

Over the years, our work has expanded to respond to emerging public health challenges. We remain deeply committed to preventing HIV/AIDS and to safeguarding the health, rights, and wellbeing of Young People Who Inject Drugs, ensuring they are reached with compassion, evidence-based services, and opportunities for reintegration and hope.

At Somala Mahila Sangha, we do not deliver solutions from a distance—we listen, learn, and walk alongside communities. Our commitment is to create lasting, people-led change where no one is left behind.
