HIV/AIDS Prevention & Intervention Services

Somala Mahila Sangha (MDSMS) has been committed to preventing HIV/AIDS for more than two decades, beginning with the School AIDS Awareness Programme supported by ASACS from 2001 to 2003, through which teachers, students and parents from 90 schools in Morigaon were sensitised on HIV prevention. Building on this foundation, the organisation initiated the Targeted Intervention (TI) project in Morigaon in 2008 and has continued to expand its efforts to reduce HIV transmission, enhance community awareness and connect high-risk groups with essential health services. Our work today includes three Targeted Intervention programmes—in Morigaon, Hojai and Dhekiajuli (Sonitpur)—focusing on sustained outreach, behaviour-change communication, counselling, linkage to testing and treatment, and stigma reduction among people who inject drugs, men who have sex with men and female sex workers. Guided by community participation and supported by the Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS), these interventions reflect our ongoing commitment to ensure access to prevention, care, treatment and social support services for vulnerable populations across Assam.
