Livelihood Promotion and Skill Development Initiatives of MDSMS

Morigaon District Somala Mahila Sangha (MDSMS) has emerged as a leading grassroots institution advancing rural livelihoods, women's economic empowerment, and community-based enterprise development. In partnership with NABARD and other ecosystem stakeholders, MDSMS has implemented a series of high-impact Livelihood and Enterprise Development Programmes (LEDP) and Micro Enterprise Development Programmes (MEDP) across Morigaon district, addressing both traditional skills and emerging livelihood opportunities.

LEDP: Millet-Based Powder & Breakfast Products

90 beneficiaries Representing 27 SHGs

Result : A fully equipped demonstration unit was established as a common facility centre for continued production and practice. Of the trained participants, 77 women achieved credit linkage with banks and government resource agencies, while 15 beneficiaries formally adopted milletbased livelihood activities. Notably, seven women established independent millet enterprises, demonstrating strong post-training entrepreneurship and sustainable income generation. The project significantly enhanced local livelihood options, strengthened womenled enterprises, and created a foundation for a community-level millet value-addition ecosystem.
