Mahendra Saikia is a retired teacher by profession and a committed social worker with decades of experience in education and community development. He is the Founder of Somala Mahila Sangha and has been closely associated with several social, cultural, and educational organisations in Assam. He has served as the President of Assam Sahitya Sabha, Morigaon, and is widely respected as an educationist and public intellectual. Mr. Saikia has received multiple recognitions for his contributions to education and social service including best BRC co-ordinator award in 1998 from DPEP Assam, Innovative teacher award at 'Education innovation conference' 2005 by Sir Ratan Tata Trust ( Indian Institute of Management), Ahmedabad, Outstanding contribution in realm of Education state award in 2009 by Government of Assam. He has also served as a National Resource Person for classroom vision at NCERT, Delhi 1998 for capacity-building for government stakeholders. He has also been awarded as best District President of Assam Sahitya Sabha for 2023-25. As the Chief Executive Officer of Morigaon District Somala Mahila Sangha, he continues to provide strategic leadership and guidance, playing a pivotal role in shaping the organisation's vision and ensuring the successful implementation of its programmes.
